Publishing administration is an ongoing rights and data-management function, not merely a promise that an artist will receive more streams or money.
How the rights and registrations work
Core work can include reviewing songwriting splits, maintaining composition and publisher metadata, assisting with registrations, identifying conflicts, monitoring royalty records and handling documented inquiries. What an administrator is contractually required to do depends on its actual agreement and the rights it is authorized to administer.
What a rights holder should do
Artists should request a written scope, clear fees, reporting cadence, responsibilities for registrations, treatment of existing catalogs and termination procedures. Utopian’s current services page lists a $500 one-time administration startup fee and $50 monthly charge; separate services may be priced differently.
