Spotify’s policy beginning April 2024 requires a recording to reach at least 1,000 streams in the previous 12 months to enter its recorded-music royalty pool calculation, alongside other eligibility requirements.
What the platform or industry reports say
The 1,000 threshold is measured by track and rolling activity, not as a guaranteed minimum payment. Crucially, Spotify states this change applies to recording royalties and does not change its method of calculating publishing royalties.
Practical recommendations
Independent artists should monitor both master-income and publishing reports and never assume an ineligible recording has zero other possible income. A composition may still have separate publishing administration issues even when its recording is below the recorded-royalty threshold.
