Music Takedowns and Reuploads: Preserve Evidence Before Acting

A song can be removed because of rights disputes, platform policy violations, artificial-streaming reports or a voluntary catalog move. These causes require different responses.

Why the distinction matters

DistroKid’s artificial-streaming guidance says artists who did not use suspicious promotion may be able to upload again using the same ISRC, but any reupload should follow the actual platform and rights-holder instructions. A reupload will not cure a genuine copyright dispute or guarantee retained statistics.

Checklist for creators

Archive the rejection reason, dated support correspondence, ownership files, original audio, identifiers and past earnings statements. Determine whether the issue is metadata, a fraudulent-traffic finding or a rights complaint before making corrective submissions.
